
Description:
The butterfly is an insect. This means its body is in three parts. The head is at the front. The thorax is in the middle. The abdomen is at the back.
Life Cycle:
Female butterflies lay their eggs on leaves. The eggs stick to the leaves so they will not fall off. The eggs hatch into caterpillars. The caterpillar becomes a chrysalis. The caterpillar will stay in the chrysalis for four months. The caterpillar will hatch out of the chrysalis. It will be a butterfly.

Habitat:
The butterfly lives in tropics, mountains and deserts and also lives in rainforests.
Predators:
The butterfly's predator is a praying mantis. The praying mantis will eat the butterfly and will let the wings float down stream. Spiders and birds also eat butterflies and caterpillars.
Food:
The butterfly's food is nectar. Nectar is from flowers. So you will mostly see butterflies in or near flowers.
